A Perfect Summer Weekend in Confluence, PA: Your 48-Hour Itinerary

Some weekend trips feel like a production. Confluence is the antidote. Three rivers meet in the heart of the Laurel Highlands, you can walk from your coffee to your kayak, and a weekend here feels like a week somewhere else. Here is the simplest version of a perfect 48 hours.

Friday: Arrive Slow

Roll into town, park near the square, and head straight to Tissue Farm. Iced something in hand, wander the gallery, watch the street pass. This is where your weekend actually begins. Drop your bags at Smith House Inn or River’s Edge B&B when you are ready, then take an evening stroll down to the confluence itself. The Youghiogheny, the Casselman, and Laurel Hill Creek all meet right there in town. Fireflies do the rest.

Saturday: The Full Confluence Day

Grab a pastry and coffee, then hit the Great Allegheny Passage. Confluence sits at mile marker 61.5. Confluence Cyclery on the square rents everything you need. Point yourself toward Ohiopyle and go as far as your legs like. Turn around when you are hungry.

Lunch at Mitches. Cold drink, warm meal, seats that fit a group of cyclists and their stories.

Afternoon is for the river. Float the Middle Yough with Riversport, or post up at the Ramcat access upriver for a swim, a book, and a lazy few hours on the rocks. Before you head back, give fifteen minutes to the Turkeyfoot Valley Historical Society at 600 Logan Place. It explains why the valley is called Turkeyfoot and what a town looks like when three rivers built it.

Dinner at Pamela’s Pints and Provisions. If the sky is clear after, drive fifteen minutes to Outflow Campground for some of the darkest stargazing skies in Pennsylvania.

Sunday: The Easy Goodbye

Slow breakfast back at Tissue Farm or Mitches. Cross the footbridge one more time. Morning light over the confluence is the best free thing in the Laurel Highlands. Tag Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, Ohiopyle, or Yough Lake onto your drive home if you want to stretch it.

Or cancel your Monday. Nobody here will judge you.
